(1816 – 1826) The steamboat “Washington” was 28 feet wide and 136 feet long and built with 2 decks, and a flat bottom for maneuvering in shallow water. It stopped at Franklin in 1821. On its second trip up the Missouri River in early 1826 it was carrying passengers and supplies for Fort Leavenworth It sank at Franklin, and is believed to be buried in the mud flats of South Howard County.
